Brief Answer:
Antibiotic and probiotic, activated charcoal

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
If the problem is for a month, slight diarrhea which is thin or watery, it is better to avoid Immodium at the age of 83.

It is better to take a course of 5 days of an antibiotic and see the results. Take probiotic daily, Activated charcoal tablets.
Try to avoid a particular food if you think that causes this.

I hope it is really dark brown and not tar black, meaning malena. It is still better if you can get the stool tested before you start antibiotic including the tests for occult blood.

If you do not get results within 5 days it may be necessary to go for further tests like ultrasonography of abdomen and colonoscopy. If you get results and stool becomes normal, nothing more may be needed.

I hope you do not have any other symptoms like tenesmus ( pain in abdomen before passing stool), noisy abdominal sounds ( borborygmi), nausea, reduced weight, loss of appetite or so.

With regards.
I hope this helps you.
Wishing you an early recovery.
