Brief Answer:
No need to give Normetrogyl. Give ORS.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I understand that your daughter has diarrhoea and you are concerned. But most often such diarrhoea is caused due to a virus called rotavirus which does not get cured with antibiotics. Even if it is a bacterial infection (in a small number of cases), the body has the capacity of controlling it and antibiotics do not really reduce the duration of illness. Irrespective of use of antibiotics, it generally lasts for 3-7 days. Hence I would not recommend use of Normetrogyl. Hence I am skipping to mention the dose. Antibiotics need to be given only if there is bloody diarrhoea.

The mainstay of treatment is ORS or oral rehydration solution which can be prepared by mixing a full XXXXXXX of Pedialyte or other brands on ORS in the designated amount of water and given sip by sip. It will help in preventing dehydration which is the main cause of concern. If the replenishment of salts and water is adequate, dehydration will not occur. If the frequency of passage of urine comes down or if the child becomes lethargic, you will have to take the child to a doctor without delay.

Also give plenty of curd. It contains beneficial bacteria and should help.

Hope that helps.
