Question : Hi,
My kid is diahorroe,he is 10 months old, no doctor available at this time..can I give enterogima to him..if so how much should be the dosage. He has passed stools about 7 to 8 times

Dear Mr XXXX

Majority of loose motion in children are viral in origin and self limiting . If the following criteria are fulfilled there is no cause for concern

1. Absence of blood in stools
2. Baby accepting feeds well
3. No signs of Dehydration : tongue moist
4. Urine output adequate

The aim of management is

1. Ensure intake of fluid and electrolyte to prevent dehydration

2. Maintain nutrition

3. Probiotic and zinc supplement

I would suggest you the following

1. Home made oral rehydration solution : Dhal water , rice water with added salt

2. Khicdi with curds : Curds is natural Probiotic

3. Home made lime water with salt added

4. You can give Enterogermina which is Probiotic. Dosage is 2.5 ml thrice a day. I would prefer giving Flora BC (Combination of Probiotic and zinc ). It is important to add zinc during diarrhoea episode in babies

5. Continue breastfeeding if baby is still breast feeding.
