Brief Answer:
it should come back naturally

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned about the delay in your periods but in most cases, it comes back naturally.

Pregnancy tests , as you would know detect the HCG hormone. This hormone is detectable by most pregnancy tests by day 11 to 14 after possible conception.

If this time had passed when the tests were done then they were accurate and you are not pregnant at this time. If you think the tests were done before the 14 day mark, then you should repeat to get a true result.
There is a definite chance that you have conceived but you would have to repeat the test to find out.

If the test is negative and the fertility specialist suggested weight loss to help with conception, it is possible that he may be implying that you have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). You can correct me if he did not give this diagnosis.

This condition is associated with irregular or delayed periods , difficulty with conception.
Weight loss is very helpful in regularizing the period and improving the chance of conception with persons with PCOS.

Your period will likely come back naturally if you are currently not pregnant and lifestyle changes geared towards weight loss will help with this.

It can be difficult to lose weight sometimes, so if this is case for you, you should enlist the help of your doctor, a weight specialist, a nutritionist or an online weight program.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I dont have PCOS it has been ruled out

Brief Answer:
this means more likely your periods would return if not pregnant

Detailed Answer:
HI

That is good.
That means there is a greater chance of your periods returning naturally if you are not pregnant and also a greater chance of conception.

Repeat the test in a few days if it was done before 2 weeks, if you prefer, your doctor can do a blood test. It may be positive.

Your specialist would have likely done the other tests for delayed periods such as thyroid tests, prolactin hormone levels, if this is not the case, then these should be done

Please feel free to ask anything else

Hi

My GP has done blood test I am going later for my results. My GP says I could still be pregnant if it is negative as blood test was taken 5 days after late period

Brief Answer:
that is correct, it is possible, can be repeated if negative

Detailed Answer:
HI

He/she is correct, it is possible that you are pregnant. If this is the case , then you should repeat within another few days to get an accurate result.

3 to 5 days would be enough time after this initial test

If anything else unclear, can let me know

What do you think my cycles have been like this:
August 2015 24 day cycle
September 2015 26 day cycle
October 2015 24 day cycle
November 2015 32 day cycle
December 2015 26 day cycle

Currently on DAY 40 I am mixed up

Please find attached my blood results. Can you see anything wrong?
My GP says all is good.
Pregnancy test negative but doctor says will test again in 10 days just to confirm (if I have not started period)

Brief Answer:
tests were normal

Detailed Answer:
HI,

It is understandable to feel mixed up

The cycle has been relatively regular except for this instance, there is some variation but not excessive.
It is quite understandable to believe that this 40 day delay may mean that you have conceived.

The blood tests were reviewed and were good as your doctor stated- the complete blood count, ESR, electrolytes, hormone levels, Hba1c, thyroid, liver function, kidney function, iron levels were all normal

The only remaining test is prolactin , this can be considered. High levels can cause delayed periods as well

So should i rule pregnancy out or not
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Michelle Gibson (7 hours later)
Brief Answer:
yes, can be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
HI

Sorry about the delayed reply.

Yes, pregnancy should be ruled out by an additional test.

If you are truly negative and then the prolactin hormone blood test can be considered to add to the comprehensive bloods that you've done already

You can let me know if you need any additional assistance
