Brief Answer:
Needs early and quick evaluation by surgeon or urologist

Detailed Answer:
hi

you had not given enough history. your only complaint was unable to pass urine which is serious in a hexagenarian. your husband definitely needs evaluation as soon as possible.
in my opinion I think of following in the order of highest possibility:
moderate to severe prostate enlargement
failing kidneys
severe dehydration
loss of smooth muscle tone because of hidden injury.

please reach a urologist with earliest appointment.
