Brief Answer:
melatonin or ativan is good choice

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

You have sleeping difficulty.

Considering your physical condition and age I would like to mention behavioral approach first.

There are some measures called sleep hygiene which can help in good sleep. You can find the same in following link.

Even after trying these if you do not improve, medicines are needed.

You have tried lunesta and clonazepamm.

I would recommend melatonin and ativan as they cause very less effect of respiration. Other option is ambien (zolpidem).

You can discuss above medicines with your treating doctor and can get suitable medicine with valid prescription.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

What is a cognitive therapist? We do not have one in XXXXXXX LA.

There are also problems with the family.

One daughter is 49 and lives here. She has not spoken to me in two years.
Her husband is an old hippie. However, XXXXXXX has had two nervous breakdowns.
One in middle school and another in her early twenties.
XXXXXXX just turned 44 and I have not seen or talked with her in 5 years!
She lives in VA. and sometimes will let the children call.

I have tried to get the older daughter to come over and help her go through
the business. She has refused. We had always been close but her husband
didn't want to share her time with me. They live 5 minutes away.

I have been through a lot. I lost my left lung in l984 with histoplasmosis,
melanoma on my left arm which did not require chemo or radiation,
two hernia's removed, and most recently I have been losing platelets.
I am seeing a hematologist.
I would like to see my Grandchildren as I will be in No XXXXXXX for Thanksgiving. XXXXXXX and her husband are architects so you can just imagine the perfect family.

Ironically, I am close to my ex-husband who just retired from UT in Journalism.
He has a Ph.D. in Communication Research from Stanford University and does
Quantitative Research.
XXXXXXX is 77 and ran off with a student who was 20 years younger! His sons
are 20 and 24!!

Now that I have set the scene or best yet, amused you , should I email
my daughters about the drop in platelets? Where do I go from here?
My priest even called them last year to let them know where he could
reach them. I don't want this health problem to give them a guilt trip.

I have had a great and interesting life. Taught deaf/h.o.h. in California.
It is sad that we cannot live in harmony.

Thanks for your ear!

Brief Answer:
I think you should inform daughters about your situation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I read your history. You have fought well with many of physical ailments during whole life. You have undergone relationship disturbances frequently. I appreciate your courage to fight with these much problems in life even at age of 78.

I recommend informing your daughters about your current health problem and reducing platelets. If they come to see you it will be helping you psychologically. If they cannot come you should think that they are busy and due to some reasons cannot come.

You need supportive psychotherapy at this age considering all aspects. Cognitive therapy is specifically used in depression and anxiety disorders to correct automatic thoughts and distorted cognition. Person who does the psychotherapy is called psychotherapist.

You may find psychotherapist near to you with help of following link.
