Brief Answer:
back of the heel or under the heel?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

it's a different thing if it's the back of the heel (Achilles' tendinitis) or under the heel (plantar fasciitis).

The most common one is under the heel, so I'll give you instructions about it. I suppose you haven't had any injuries or you would have mentioned it!

Plantar fasciitis causes pain on standing and - more characteristically - on the first step after getting out of the bed. The first step is the most painful one, but the next steps are not painless either!

Plantar fasciitis is a difficult condition to treat because it requires patience and adherence to instruction.
You should avoid walking barefoot or on hard surface. Elevating the heel a little with silicon pads will be very helpful regarding pain relief and healing time.
Stretching might help. Standing for long is the worst you can do to your heel.

Using drugs (like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) won't help but it may help with the pain.

Keep in mind that this condition takes a lot of time (perhaps more than 1-2 months) to heal completely.

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Brief Answer:
it's an overuse syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Plantar fasciitis is caused by repetitive small injury to the tendon. There is no way to prevent it but to adhere to the aforementioned instructions.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
