Question : I have discomfort/pain in the lower right quadrant of my back. I just had a CT scan and the results were that there were no issues with 1} gallbladder, 2} liver, 3} kidney, etc. I do not think I have pulled a muscle. Any other thoughts as to the cause?

Brief Answer:
Please give me some more details about the pain so I can help more.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

Depending on how the pain is, if it is radiated and for how long you have had it, it can be a lot of possible things.

First, I should also say that the CT is not good for soft tissue problems, but more for bones. So if the CT was normal, does not mean that we can completely rule out problems from those organs.

Although it's not certain how wide in the abdomen the CT was performed, it can be a problem from the pelvic bones, a problem from the ovaries, or even a nerve problem (if the pain radiates at the thighs/legs).

Please let me know more details about the pain:
- How can you describe it?
- Does it radiate to somewhere else?
- How strong is it? Is it continuous with episodes?
- For how long have you had it?
- What makes it worse or better?- bowel movement? movement? medicines tried?

Looking forward to your follow up question.

In answer to your questions:
I have had it for about 4 weeks
I am always aware of that region. Sometimes there is a stabbing pain.
It seems to be localized to that area of my back
I have also had some increased burping after eating which is why the doctor
suggested Prilosec. I am more concerned about the pain.
The CT was done with barium consumption prior to the test, but without contrast

Brief Answer:
Possibly related with the bowel, bones of the pelvis, ovaries, ect.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow up question.

Priosec helps with stomach pain but not for other pains.

I don't think that a CT without contrast would be very accurate to tell what is going on with that pain.
I think that the pain may be related with the bowel, but also with what I mentioned above. In order to understand which is the next step and the next exam that you need to do, you need to have a thorough physical exam and then maybe a colonoscopy, or an abdominal ultrasound.

I hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
