Posted on Sat, 9 May 2015
Question: Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis.Treatment was 10 days 3x a day of metronidazole.About
half way the treatment I started experiencing blurred vision, weakness in legs, lightheadedness, shakiness of whole body, metallic taste, lost of appetite irregular heart beat.Etc.
All seemed to be related to the medicine. Two days ago I had my yearly very complete heart exam. That turned out good.
Now I am wondering how long the side effects will last and what I should do about them if anything???
The diverticulitis has cleared up, heart checkup good but still feel weak, out of breath and no energy.
Thank you for your time and any info you can provide.
Sincerely , XXXXXXX Cowan

Brief Answer:
Side effects of Metronidazole last a couple of weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Side effects of Metronidazole when they happen, need a couple of weeks to subside, and you should see improvement day by day after stopping it.

If the cardio check up was okay, you don't have to worry about weakness and shortness of breath, they will subside gradually.

Since Metronidazole is excreted with urine, having plenty of fluids, in order to increase urine output and Metronidazole excretion, should accelerate improvement process.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
