diverticulosis and lichen planus

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

Welcome to health care magic!

I am Dr. Saddiq Ul Abidin. I have read your problem in detail and will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is really sad to know about your sufferings lately, as managing both diseases concomitantly must be hard for you and you appear to have quite some nerves. Though your concern relating to both being related, is less likely as both share entirely different etiology.

For diverticulosis, the other disease being the inflammatory bowel, has a strong association but with lichen it is least likely. I hope you have been councelled well for diverticulosis regarding use of high fibre diets and ispaghol husk as both of these have shown to have some benefits. It would be more appropriate to screen yourself for regular haemoglobin levels as in sensual bleeding my lead to anemia. Also long term constipation or anything which can strain your bowel should immediately be tackled as it can lead to further complications.

For lichen, the steroid courses can be used after discussing with your dermatologist as well as gastroentrologist, if there is no contraindication. Even vitamin A and D can be used in checked dosages. Although the treatment benefits are not what can be said to be significant.

Having said that, the issues you are facing currently may require local emolients or use of oral analgesics. Avoiding any corrosive or intense substance, or direct sunlight may have some relief from burning incidences. In short most of the treatment should be based on symptomatic relief and regular followup with your GP and necessary referal from time to time.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. kindly rate me generously before closing, and leave your feedback if possible.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ul abidin.
