Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello & thank you for submitting your question.

As you likely are aware, diverticuli are small outpouchings of the intestinal mucosa. They can be prone to becoming impacted with food and fecal material which may then result in inflammation, or diverticulitis. It is important to consume a diet high in fiber and to keep well hydrated to keep your stool soft. It may be reasonable to try to consume 25-30 mg of fiber daily. Foods that are particularly good sources of fiber include green leafy vegetables and squash, fruits with low seed content, beans, legumes, and whole grain cereals such as oatmeal.

If you have a bout of diverticulitis or a flare up, this diet should be modified to consist primarily of low fiber, less solid foods. You may discuss this with your physician if the need arises. I hope this was helpful and I wish you good health.

Sincerely,
Dr Galamaga
