Posted on Fri, 9 Oct 2015
Question: Hello I have been dizzy on and off now for a month. My neurologist did an mri and eeg both normal. Today an eng was done on me and during the test I became very dizzy when cold air was blown into my right ear. I have to wait for the results. Does this mean I have a vestibular problem? I did not tell the techinican but during the test I was dizzy. She was able to tell that I was dizzy because of the movement of my eye through the camera.

Brief Answer:
No!Dizziness is not the criteria to interpret an ENG.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Of course NOT.Dizziness during ENG is not the basis of interpretation. Some dizziness can normally occur during ENG.Interpretation whether the problem is vestibular or central depends entirely on the eye movements.

Gaze in which the Nystagmus beats-Type of nystagmus-other eye movements like ocular flutter are some of the indicators which may guide interpretation.
In other words, eye movements are the key to diagnosis, here.

Please follow-up once you get the results as I am interested in tracking down your clinical developments.

If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to answer.

Brief Answer:
Usually not.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for being in follow-up.

In usual scenarios,if one is having dizziness during EEG,it will not make any change in the EEG waves.
In rare circumstances however,if dizziness is due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain,it may make an impact on EEG waves.

If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
