Suggest Treatment For Dizziness And Dull Headaches

Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: For some days I am feeling dull headache in the back of my head and after it started it blocked my left ear . When i used to press my head my pressure of head seemed to be moving front side . I also had dizziness but now dizziness is lessened and headache is still there with blocked ear. I suspect it is sinusitis but I don't have much nasal congestion or fluid discharge but my left nostril works less and my left ear is still blocked.i am concerned about my headache which is like 24/7 mild in the back which after some days of ease started 2 days back again when I went for drinking.Does sinusitis occur with these symptoms or is it something else? I have no history of any headache or sinusitis .Yesterday I was dizzy in the morning with my eyes hurting but then it went away.sometimes I feel like pressure around the face but not much so I suspected it to be sinusitis .Does sinusitis block ear? What can I do?

Brief Answer:
Ear, Nose examination, audiometry, sinus CT.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Sinusitis can lead to ear blockage due to Eustachian Tube Dysfunction.

2. Ear examination to rule out ear wax and eardrum problems, impedance audiometry to check middle ear pressure must be done. Nasal examination, endoscopy and a plain Sinus CT will help settle the diagnosis conclusively.

3. These are common symptoms and neck muscle spasm can also be a cause.

4. Initial treatment should always be medication.

5. Upload these examination and test results for further treatment options.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thanks for your reply, Sir i want to know whether sinusitis can occur without nasal discharge and can it cause headache on the rear part of head?I read somewhere that sinus causes headache around cheeks and face only.I feel pressure around eyes face sometimes but my headache is around back, dull so can it be tension or migraine type? Does tension headaches last throughout the day in a dull fashion? What can be the cause of mild dizziness ? My head pains when i shake it at the back sharply? If not sinus what can be the other reason of blocked ear?

Brief Answer:
Get the tests done and upload the results.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Chronic Sinusitis can occur with minimal nasal discharge, especially if a sinus is blocked.

2. It is possible to have a headache spreading to the back with sinusitis, however as mentioned before, tension headaches and neck muscle spasm will also present with such symptoms.

3. The cause of dizziness can be blocked ears, pain or neck spasm. Head pain on shaking the head will be related to muscle spasm, either in the scalp or the neck.

4. The tests mentioned are important to differentiate between various causes. get them done and upload the results.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
