Suggest Treatment For Dizziness And Fatigue When Heart Rate Is 52 Bpm

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: I am 47 year old woman, fairly healthy, no current medical issues. I watch my BP regularly since a few years ago it was high, but pretty much normal now. My heart rate has been averaging throughout the day 44 - 52. I am extremely tired, dizzy and can't seem to stay warm. I have always had a low heart rate usually 58 - 68. Is this just a sign of age. Everyone keeps telling me to go to the ER but other than those simple symptoms I feel fine and would feel ridiculous going to the ER or even to the doctor. I don't feel anything will be determined going to doctor or ER because I am one of those people that my BP normally goes up when I go in.

Brief Answer:
Routine work up instead of an ER visit

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

The heart rate is slightly on the lower side. However, an ER visit with no symptoms should not be necessary. A low heart rate /bradycardia which is symptomatic ie associated with chest pain, hypotension, confusion or shortness of breath should be worked up to rule out a rhythm abnormality. It won't also be a bad idea to get a routine work up done that would include an EKG, profile, thyroid function tests, blood counts and metabolic profile. Your routine is healthy and should be continued.

Thank you, this puts me at ease and I have had a recent blood panel done in the last three months. My thyroid function is perfect and blood counts are all normal. I recently have had slight confusion and short term memory loss but I sum that up to my diagnoses of "stress dementia". Which I figure is why my eye has been twitching for the last eight weeks. My concern was mostly for the heart rate, my mom has a pacemaker because her heart rate was ranging around 50 bpm. I just wanted an opinion on if my symptoms warranted seeing a doctor. Thank you again.
