Question : My husband has completed oral chemotherapy 6 weeks ago. He was getting on well. for the past week he is retching and hiccupping sore neck and head and feeling dizzy and very tired. He is seeing the oncologist for an abdominal aspiration on thursday. Losing weight again Will that relieve these symptoms? or is down to something else? Is it possible to have side effects of Chemo 6 weeks after the final treatment

                                    Brief Answer:
Hello dear. Please provide some more details.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I understand your concern.
I can make out from Abdominal aspiration that your husband has developed ascites(fluid in abdomen cavity) and that requires aspiration. If fluid is very large in amount, aspiration is definitely going to help. I think it is the disease progression rather than the side effects of chemo which are troubling him. Please provide some details like
diagnosis
stage of the disease
chemo taken.
I can then throw further light on the prognosis and further treatment.
Thanks and regards

Peritoneal stage 4 tumour in oesophegus and stomach. Not sure of the name of the chemo. He had 6 infusions followed by 3 oral chemo. He also had embolisms in his lungs which are clear now after many months of blood thinners. Last oral chemo 6 weeks ago Tumour markers down. Feeling fit and healthy. Last scan indicated fluid in abdomen and slightly in the lungs. Oncologist was very pleased with my husbands progress- said he was "stable" and said it would be ok to travel next month. However, my husband ( since his Oncology appointment) has started to present these symptoms as mentioned.

Hello dear. It suggests disease progression.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.
Sorry to say, but it suggests disease progression. HE may now require another round of chemotherapy either iv or oral form of drugs. Fluid can be removed if it is causing trouble like breathing difficulty or pain in the abdomen.
Thanks and regards
