Brief Answer:
You would get better.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and blood test reports. Your ataxia is most probably related to vitamin B12 and D deficiencies.

The best part is that the neurological symptoms caused by vitamin B12 deficiency improves after treatment, and is mostly reversible. Only in a small proportion of cases, some residual neurological deficits may remain.

I am assuming also that MRI of brain and spine were done, and they were normal. If MRI is normal, the chances of complete recovery are higher.

Please continue the treatment as at present.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.

Hi XXXXXXX thanks for your reply
Since i had this ataxia (unsteady gait) for past 3 years and i have started the treatment recently is it still reversible??
And its been 25 days i started with the treatment with the above prescriptions but the symptopms fluctuates at times it turns worse and sometimes its managable, however w.r.t Ataxia i feel little improvement i can sit/stand normally though it comes and goes
during the course of the treeatment is it usual for the Symptoms to fluctuate before getting stabilised?
Now more than Ataxia my worry is weakness in hands and feet and slight tingling Sensation.which kills me
i have taken MRI/CT scan of XXXXXXX and all are normal.
And do you think that the above prescription and doses are perfect or the dose needs to be increased?
And its been jus 8 months back i got married can i plan to have kids at these conditions?

Brief Answer:
You are on correct treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

You are on correct treatment at present.

Symptoms may fluctuate during the course of treatment.

Since the treatment was started late, there may be minor residual symptoms left, and 100% recovery may not occur.

You can plan to have children.

Brief Answer:
You will still get a good recovery.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

I still feel that you would get a good recovery, at least 80-90% is very much possible.

You would be able to do your daily activities without much problem.

Recovery begins within a month and continues for several months.

You can take Amway supplements.

Thanks much for your reply. Now it's Almost a month I have started the treatment. I Feel only some 20 - 30% improvement still I feel some weakness in my legs.. Should I take b12 life long? Can't I control that with my food. ? How long it would take from now for me to see some 80% improvement?? Just an informational only I have done MRI of brain and it's normal. The spine surgeon advised me not to go for spine MRI . He said its vitamin b12 problem may be sub acute combined degeneration of a cord which will improve/ cure with treating b12 deficiency?

Brief Answer:
You should continue vitamin B12 for long.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

It is good to note that you are 15-20% better in a month's time. It is better than expected recovery. You would see 80% recovery in 6-9 months.

Vitamin B12 treatment is required for long. Many people have antibodies in the gut that prevent absorption. So, diet alone may not be sufficient, especially in vegetarians.

I hope it helps.
