Suggest Treatment For Dizziness, Inner Ear Issues And Far Sightedness

Question: Yes, I have been experiencing some inner ear issues. I experience a feeling that things around me slowly turn (not actual dizziness) with a "swinging" feeling in my head, as maybe water in the ears. Also, I have some nystagmus that increases more when reading on a computer. I went to an Ear, Nose and Throat Dr., about 4 months ago, where he said my actual balance seemed alright and my hearing is good. I had an MRI (no tumor or legions) and an ENG that both came out normal. I've read that some people may still have an inner ear imbalance though an ENG is normal. Also, they recommended that I see an eye doctor, which may be part of the cause, and I do believe I may need corrective lenses as I'm 44 years of age (and female) and am becoming a little far sighted as well. I was wondering if and/or what other inner ear conditions that may not be detected with a normal ENG test?
Thank you so much for your time.

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having dizziness.

As such, Certain factors or conditions interferes like, Earwax, Impaired vision, Frequent blinking, medications, such as sedatives, tranquilizers, and antivertigo medications.

In my opinion, your medications (lisnopril) also causes vertigo due to hypotension.

ENG and MRI normal results, concludes normal inner ear. you need to continue cawthrone exercises and wear corrective lenses to abolish the vertigo episodes.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Yes, I had another question in regard to Cawthorn exercises. When I lay down on one side and/or get up out of bed, I sometimes begin to feel the symptoms I previously mentioned of a "bobbing" feeling. Will these exercises also help with that as well? Also, I was wondering if I should possibly talk to my primary physician about switching blood pressure medication to one not containing Hydrochlorothiazide, if that may be an additional problem?

Thank you very much for your time!

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Dizzy spells while getting up from bed or changing posture denotes BPPV (benign paroxymal positional vertigo). And yes, cawthrone exercises helps in prevention of dizziness. In case of BPPV, canal reposition maneuvers are treatment of choice for total eradication of BPPV dizz spells. You can discuss about it with your doctor.

Thiazide group of drugs can sometimes cause sodium derangement which may trigger dizziness. You should discuss about it with your treating physician. He/she will take a call as per blood pressure chart.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
