Question: Hi,

I choked on a hot dog about 2 weeks ago, and been having the following symptoms ever since that day:

Dry mouth/throat w/ feeling of scratched throat

i am having difficulty eating solid foods, but can easily eat ice cream and drink liquids.

Drinking water makes my mouth more dryer for whatever reason.

Why do I feel this way? And how long would it take for my throat to heal?

Brief Answer:
Esophagitis was caused when you chocked, could take 4-6 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. Sorry about the trouble eating, it seems that you have what we call esophagitis trauma induced after you chocked on the hot dog. You will feel better as the days go by, like most injuries this will take about 4 weeks to resolve. I would avoid spicy foods and dry foods that could re-injure your throat/esophagus. I hope this helps and good luck.

Brief Answer:
You are welcome, I would try Oasis, ACT total care and chewing gum

Detailed Answer:
I would continue drinking water though to keep hydrated and try chewing gum that will force your saliva to coat your mouth. The Oasis, ACT total care and Xylimelts are other options, one may work better for you than the biotene you have tried.

Brief Answer:
Soaked cereal in milk, applesauce, scrambled eggs, stews, purees

Detailed Answer:
The idea here is to especially avoid bread, pasta can be trouble, steaks, and you need to have food that is pureed if necessary.

As for my dry irritated throat situation: i be feeling fine when i drink caprisun juices or cranberry juice, but when i go back to water it makes my throat feel weird and extra dry again

Brief Answer:
I would continue with the juices then, as long as you get good hydration

Detailed Answer:
Try green tea, it is light and should not leave you feeling dry. Otherwise at this point as long as you are getting water into your body that is a plus.
