Brief Answer:
sometimes persists despite treatment

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The eusthachian tubes connect the ear cavity to the nasopharynx. It has different functions- it helps regulates/control pressure in the middle ear
It protects the middle ear from secretions from the nose or throat and it also helps with clearing secretions from the ear into the nose and throat.

Eustachian tube dysfunction (abnormal function of the eustachian tube) can result in a blocked up feeling in the ears. It would cause sound to be muffled as you are experiencing

It can sometimes go away on its own in some persons, in others it last a long period of time.

In addition to the spray that you are using, you should also try oral anti histamines and oral decongestants.
These are sometimes helpful in relieving symptoms.

They may come in combination at your local pharmacy. Examples are allegra d, zyrtec d, claritine d.
In addition, the valsava maneuver might help. This is trying to breath out with mouth closed and nose pinched.

If there is no improvement then you may need to see an ENT specialist for assessment.

I hope this help, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you for your reply. I should have mentioned that the ENT Doctor that I visited advised me to NOT take the anti histamines. I had been taking allergy shots 1 x week for about a year and that did not help. Really I can't see a difference if I take or don't take the anti histamines. I don't use the nose spray either because I can't tell a difference and I experience a side effect from the harmones. It is getting unbearable and will try to make an appointment with another ENT Specialist. I hope there is something that can be done about this problem. Have been under a lot of stress for the past two years and wonder if that could trigger this problem? Thank you for your time. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
may be best to get reassessed

Detailed Answer:
Hi

It is understandable to be frustrated at the long course of your symptoms, anyone would be.

Stress can affect the response to treatment and can minimally affect symptoms as well but would not directly cause your symptoms to occur.

It may be best, as you suggested, to see another Ent doctor for another opinion.

Please feel free to ask any additional questions
