Question: Hi, my name is XXXX. I have bipolar, and I was diagnosed 20 years ago. I take 4 meds for the bipolar, Geodon, Wellbutrin, Lamictal and Tegretol. I also know that I've been a "binge" eater and "compulsive overeater" for as many years, and now my weight at this time is approximately 275 lbs. Even though I take my meds properly I am still very depressed over weight issue. Four months ago I went to Timberline Knolls, but they specialized in Bulimia and Anorexia. I am desperately in need of really helpful suggestions in controlling "my" eating issues. Thank You

Brief Answer:
CBT

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
The issues with increased diet and binge eating is difficult to control with the drugs. Drugs can help you to some extent, especially in reducing the symptoms of the underlying psychiatric illness but they wont help you in binge eating per se. This requires you to under go intensive cognitive behavioural therapy and hypnotic therapy. Only by doing these therapies can you expect some improvement in your binge eating illness. The medicines you are on are fine , all you need to do is find a good psychologist who does cognitive behavioural therapy in your local area and start the therapies. It may take 8-12 weeks to show the improvement.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
