Question : I was taking simvostatin however I d/c taking it on 4/1/2015 because it was making me constipated. My triglycerides are elevated 178. They were much lower when I took the simvostain and when I was on lipitor d/c due to mussel pain. What do you think about me trying ezetimibe? I am sending my labs and meds list

                                    Brief Answer:
it can cause a reduction in triglycerides
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Ezetimibe prevents absorption of cholesterol in the intestines, it does cause a reduction in triglycerides though the effect is not as much with some of the other drugs.
You may also want to try omega 3, if you are not currently using it. It has been shown that this can reduce triglycerides by as much as 45% when used in higher doses.
It can also be found in foods such as flaxseed oil, salmon, sardines, mackerel, chia seeds.
Other medications that can specifically affect triglycerides are the fibrate family of drugs such as bezafibrate, fenofibrate, gemifibrozil.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you Dr, are the two Fish Oil 1000 MG I am taking twice a day the same as the Omega 3?
Can I try taking Lipitor 10mg. again to lower trigylycerides? (at one time I blamed it for mussel pain however another factor may have been the cause).

                                    Brief Answer:
should contain the omega 3
Detailed Answer:
HI
The fish oil supplements should contain omega 3, most of them will, but you can recheck the label on the container to make sure.
You can re try the lipitor, using the lowest dose to see if you can tolerate it.
