Question : ok-I live in b.c. & have a good friend in Edmonton. I am told she is having problems with her health. She is diagnosed with emphesema, & calcifications of the lung. She is given 3-6 mnths worst scenario. Given some type of pill to slow down calcifications-1x aweek, then 2x week, then 3x a week. Is there anything else that can be done? She is my best friend-& I will be visiting her soon-but cannot go with a cold.

I can understand your concern.
Emphysema is chronic, progressive disease.
And it can lead to calcification in the lungs
So proper treatment of emphysema is must.
First line treatment for emphysema is inhaled treatment.
This consists of inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
So better to start this treatment in her to control emphysema and hence calcification.
If she is smoker than ask her to quit smoking as soon as possible.
