Question : 30 year old male, fairly in good health. Depressed and anxious at this moment.

Since past 2 days have sore lymph nodes(started at head, then neck, now I feel soreness in armpit and groin).

Tests done -
AST Serum, ALT Serum, TSH, Total protein, ultrasound Abdomen, blood urea, chest x-ray, ALP Serum, Bilirubin Serum, Calcium Serum, CBP, ESR, Creatinine Serum, CUE, Fasting Glucose, Hb a1c, HBs Ag, Lipid Profile.

All the results are in normal range. Have repeated CBP and ESR, it's normal again just to remove bias of any lab.

Clueless what's happening, right now - I have some scalp pimples and have jock itch. Not sure whether they cause painful lymph nodes.

Afraid whether am suffering from anything serious?. Can someone throw some light?. Let me know if you want to know any particular test results. Also, have some done a few other tests in recent past.

Brief Answer:
Infection causes enlarged lymph nodes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting in health care magic.

Lymph nodes will be enlarged and painful due to infection and associated inflammation. I am pleased that most tests are normal. One important test that you have missed is FNAC ( FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY). If swollen lymph node doesn't resolve, please consult your doctor and get it done.
If FNAC is inconclusive, you can go for Biopsy. One enlarged lymph node will be removed and sent for histopathological examination.

Usually, I prescribe Antibiotics like Cefuroxime and Clindamycin and anti inflammatory tablets to my patients with similar complaints. Discuss with your treating doctor.
Nothing to worry.

Wish you good health.

Now, am more worried..Won't these all tests rule out everything?. According to my doctor, he doesn't see any point in investigating further as if something was wrong, at least something should have been wonky in my results. How should I go about asking for FNAC? Will all the big hospitals have this facility?. I am planning to see my doctor tomorrow, is there any advice?.

Also, do you see anything seriously wrong(like serious diseases)?. Am very anxious.

Brief Answer:
FNAC is done by pathology department.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
When you consult your doctor tomorrow, request him to write FNAC.
It is done in most of the hospitals. As pathologist is available in most of the hospitals, you can get it done easily. You can get the report with in a day.
It look like simple bacterial infection in your case.
But, it has to be confirmed by FNAC.
Nothing to worry.
Every thing will be alright.
Please come back with FNAC report, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

Below are my test results of FNAC.

Results: Scanty cellular smears showing small mature lymphocytes with few centrocytes and histiocytes. No evidence of necrosis/granulomas. FNAC post aurical lymph node: Reactive lymph node.

Doctor suggested that the test is normal and nothing to worry.

So, can I close this story of anxiety and pressure filled doctor visits for this problem in the wake of normal results I believe?. Do you advice me anything else I need to take care of or any tablets do you advice?.

Thanks again for trying to help me out.

Also, hopefully last question on this - Whatever the report indicates that few centrocytes and histiocytes?. Are those normal to see?.

Probably, am getting too stressed about this stuff. Sorry, if it looks like.

Also, sometimes I get anxiety..Not sure whether its due to pill or am still stressed out.
