Brief Answer:
Proper evaluation is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ms. XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

Firstly, your mother-in-law needs a complete evaluation to see why the uterus has enlarged. If there are any associated symptoms that cannot be cured through medical treatment, she may be a candidate for surgery.

Please see a specialist and have a proper clinical examination, a pelvic/trans-vaginal sonogram, blood counts and urinalysis to assess the situation. Simple bulky uterus seen after deliveries, fibroid uterus, endometriosis, tumors and so on should be excluded and further management planned accordingly.

I will be able to comment further if you can provide any other such information that is useful in this context.

Hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
