Question: My 48 yr old daughter is having a problem with excessive bloating or swelling of her stomach. She is overweight,so her belly is always big. Yesterday she look normal all day. Then last night she looked like she was about to deliver a baby. This has been going on for at least a month or more. Any idea why this is happening?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to pseudo obstruction

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

After reading the symptoms of your daughter I feel she may be suffering from pseudo obstruction. it is not a true obstruction of intestine. In this they will have reduced motility of intestine so there will be less passage of gas which leads to frequent severe bloating , pain etc.

Usually obesity is one of the cause .

I treatment is based on identifying causes; therefore I suggest you to consult a general surgeon/gastro surgeon and get her investigated. Consult as soon as you get an appointment . Delaying may increase risk of future attacks .

Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries are there I would love to help.
