Question: I have been missing my ileocecal valve due to a surgery in 2009. Since that İ lost a lot of weight and couldnt gain weight again. And İ ve got stomachaches after eating. Can it be because of the missing ileocecal valve?
İ got a peptic ulcer disease too this year july. Could that be related too to the missing ileocecal valve?
Thanks a lot for an answer!

Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows :
1. You are reporting to have removed ileocecal valve . It is true that it can cause weight loss due to malabsorbtion and probably diarrhea.
Weight loose and diarrhea is a side effect of this kind of surgery.
2. You are reporting to have been diagnosed with peptic ulcer disease this year and this is not related with removed ileocecal valve.
the main causes of peptic ulec disease are:
- H.Pylori infection
- NSAID's use

Hope it was helpful to you!

Hi back,

In such cases I recommend to use anti diarrhea drugs like loperamide.
But the efffect is not so high because the cause of diarrhea is shortend of intestine.
Otherwise my patients get improved after liperamide use.
Hope it was helpful to you.

Hi back,
Thank you for clarifing your symptoms.
Your condition can not be fixed by surgery.
It can only be improved by medical therapy.
If you have stoamch ache and eating it may be realted with peptic ulcer too .
So I suggest to continue using PPI's and to start digestive enzymes (like Creon) to improve food absorbtion.
It will help to gain weight.
Hope it was helpful to you.
