Over the past year I have had three boughts of diarrhea with no warning. No cramps or even the feeling that I have to go to the bathroom. When it hit it’s almost explosive. When it happens I have absolutely no control over it. No matter how hard I try to tighten up to stop it at least till I can get to a bathroom I have no effect.
Fecal incontinence with enteritis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for query,
Fecal incontinence is the inability to control bowel movements, causing stool to leak unexpectedly from the rectum. It ranges from an occasional leakage of stool while passing gas to a complete loss of bowel control. As in your case very likely its occassional.Common causes of fecal incontinence include diarrhea, constipation, and muscle or nerve damage. The muscle or nerve damage is more common in old age.
Tests suggested-
Stool test to see the cause of recurrent diarrhea.
Digital rectal exam- Insertion of lubricated finger into your rectum to evaluate the strength of your sphincter muscles and to check for any abnormalities in the rectal area.
Magnetic resonance imaging which can provide clear pictures of the sphincter to determine if the muscles are intact.
Treatment would depend on the results of these tests.
Regards.
