Question : Hi
I have recently had an abdominal ultrasound 4 weeks ago to follow up on mildly raise liver count and fatty liver and pancreas was diagnosed ...I have almost got 2 x 3mm polyps in my gallbladder that have not changed in size for 3 years. .other results from scan we satisfactory so weight loss was recommended.

For the past year I have a stitch pain under my left rib, scans showed nothing so I was folded to take a probiotic each day..pain in left side had since stopped and I am now regular with movements but I now have a very dull ache under the right rib..food or drinks does not seen to aggravate it ..when I apply heat it seems to feel a little better ....has been. The same dull ache for 7 days...pain is about a 2- it is annoying really more than painful.
Could this be my gallbladder? I have tried hot water and lemon and that seems to help a little too.

Brief Answer:
not the gallbladder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

gallbladder pain can be of two kinds:
- gallbladder colic which lasts for less than 60 minutes (usually even less than half an hour)
- cholecystitis, which lasts for as long as the inflammation remains active. Cholecystitis causes a constant pain with nausea and perhaps vomiting.

Your pain does not sound like that at all. Constant mild pain can be related to the liver sometimes (hepatitis, hematoma), the lung (irritation of the pleura) or the muscular structures of the area. Less commonly the intestines and the right kidney can be involved but the intestine is supposed to cause a fluctuating kind of pain and the kidney pain is supposed to be localized in the flank mostly and then migrate to the front as the stone (or other cause of obstruction) moves towards the bladder.

Sometimes it's only anxiety but all the organic causes have to be excluded first.

So you've got to discuss with your doctor about the necessary investigation which may include clinical examination, a chest X-ray, a renal ultrasound scan and blood tests.

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Hi

I have had blood tests done and everything was normal besides mildly raised liver counts...recommended to lose weight and exercise..I have lost a little weight and will continue ...chest x ray 2 months ago clear and heart size normal.
It is not hugely painful but I am just aware of it most of the time...I haven't needed to take any pain relief.

Hi,

I also have dark circles under my eyes.
Is there a vitamin ot something I should do to improve the darkness?

Brief Answer:
an "innocent" cause probably

Detailed Answer:
If you've done appropriate investigation already then the serious causes have been excluded. When no serious underlying disease is suspected then only painkillers are prescribed.

Kind regards!

Brief Answer:
check with a dermatologist

Detailed Answer:
Dark circles under the eyes could be the result of :
- aging: the dark blood vessels under the soft skin of this area become more evident as we age, because of soft tissue changes.
- dermatitis: could be allergic or not. The dermatologist may help.
- fatigue: lack of sleep and fatigue may cause - transiently though - the appearance of dark circles.
- genetic factors: perhaps many individuals in your family also had (or have) dark circles

As you can see, the treatment will depend on the cause. I doubt that any vitamin will help. A visit to a dermatologist may clarify the cause, although the dark circles issues are rarely resolved.

Kind Regards!
