Question : Good evening. I know you are going to think that I am making this up, but I am not. M11 dad is currently in the hospital with an unexplained fever and elevated liver enzymes (or something like that). He is 79 years old and in poor health. He is a pancreatic cancer survivor - only because they removed his pancreas and 1/2 of his stomach 10 years ago. as a result of that, he is also a Type 1 diabetic. He cannot take any blood-thinning medicine because it causes him to bleed internally thru his stomach. He has also had a triple by-pass and prostate cancer. He had a stroke about a year ago, but recovered from that.He broke his hip last May and had pin placed in the left hip. My Mom called 911 last night because my Dad woke up and could not move his legs. While he was somewhat coherent this AM, he is becoming more lethargic and not talking. The hospital gave him so naprosen (definitely not spelled right!) to bring the fever down. His blood tests show him to be negative for any infection as does his urine. He is not dehydrated, but he is extremely confused. The results from the MRI have not come back. Can you offer any thoughts on what might be going on? He is in a small town hospital. Thank you

Possibility of another stroke
Detailed Answer:
Hello,Nskopak
Welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Rakesh Sharma answering your query.
I can understand your concern.
If all his blood and urine reports are normal, we do not have any option But to wait for MRI results. There is Possibility of another stroke.
Remember he is a fighter, he has fought many conditions. He will fight this out as well.
He is in hospital, Doctors must definitely taking care of him in best possible way.
They will advise you what has to be done after the report, if it is treatable there or he has to be shifted to any higher center.
Hope I have answered your query, if any thing else, you are welcome or you can close the question by rating the answer.
Good wishes.

The MRI came back showing no new strokes and his liver enzyme count has come down as well. The doctor wants to have a full body scan tomorrow to see if anything shows up. My concern is that whatever caused this attack ( for lack of a better word) could happen again. could it be a small stroke or would the MRI have shown that?

                                    Brief Answer:
MRI might have shown stroke
Detailed Answer:
Hello, again,
it is good that there is no sign of new stroke found, and liver enzyme count has come down.
If stroke was there, MRI might have shown it.
Chances of recurrence of his attack, in hospital set up, under supervision of doctors, are negligible. If at all it happens, doctors are there to take care of that.
