Suggest Treatment For Fever And Nausea

default
Posted on Mon, 26 Sep 2016
Question: I have a had a mild fever for 7 days which spiked at 103 on Thursday. Additionally, I have excessive gas (belching and farting). My urine is a much darker shade (now is a red-tinged). I also suffer from the chills, shakes once a day. I have vomited once a day for the last 3 days but don't feel continual nausea. On top of that, my eyes hurt like there is a pressure in my head (...but I don't have congestion). What is going on?

Brief Answer:
Urinary tract infection must be ruled out, consult physician.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM,

Since you had a fever since Thursday which spiked at 103 (high fever) with chills, belching, nausea, vomiting and dark colored urine which is likely indicative of some infection.

So, if I would your treating physician I would first want to rule out urine infection by advising routine blood works and urine analysis.

Symptoms like nausea and vomiting with belching/farting (passing gas) could be due to stomach infection (like acute gastritis or gastroenteritis) which should also be ruled out.

You may require appropriate antibiotics (after the confirmation of infection from tests reports) with other symptomatic medications.

So, I would suggest you to see some local physician who will order the above mentioned tests after doing complete clinical/physical examination and may arrive at a certain conclusion and can prescribe you the appropriate treatment.

It would NOT be advisable to take just over the counter symptomatic medication like Nyquil or Dayquil. However please stay well hydrated as your already doing.

I would suggest you to see doctor on urgent basis to rule out infection as I've already mentioned.

Hope this helps and please let me know if you need more clarification.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
