Question : hello doctor,
my son is 8 month old and weight is 9.6 kg. From last 2 days, he was suffering from fever and later started loose stools 2-3 a day. I started giving him "crocin" drops 1.4 ml every 6 hours. I also started "ziprax-50" 4 ml twice a day.
from last night, I have stayed giving econorm XXXXXXX 1/2 twice a day. but still he is doing loose stool 7-8 in a day and getting fever every 7 hours after crocin dose.
I am also giving him ors to keephim rehydrated. he is active and no sign of dehydration yet.. but he is not eating much. we need to force him to eat. please advise if we need to change any medicine oand any specific diet we need to follow.

I understand your concerns but don't worry. Most episodes of diarrhea in this age group are due to self limiting viral infections which improve within a week period. I would recommend you to continue with ORS, Econorm sachets and regular feeds for good nutrition and hydration. Ziprax 50 is usually not needed if poops do not show any signs of blood or mucous which are due to bacterial infections. But since you have started it so complete 5 days treatment before stopping.
Also, start a Zinc supplement such as Zinconia (5 ml once daily for next 2 weeks). This helps in early recovery and further immunity to similar episodes. Home made rehydration fluids especially rice water with pinch of salt, dal water, buttermilk, lemonade, soups etc are also useful for early recovery.
Tests especially stool and urine routine µscopy will be useful to rule out bacterial cause. You may upload the reports for my reference.
