Question: Hi doctor my 2 year 10 months(WT: 13.1 kg) kid had fever on 25th July 2014 with mild throat infection. Initially doctor suggested p250 syrup 5 ml and if temperature is more Ibugesic syrup (7 ml) and given antibiotic Azithral 200mg (4 ml once for 3 days). After 3 days fever reduced and he got Sevier cold and again his fever is back to 101 to 102 F. The doctor suggested to use same p250 syrup 5 ml and if temperature is more Ibugesic syrup (7 ml), also suggested to use Advent forte syrup 457mg 3.5ml twice for 6 days suspecting congestion. The fever has gone by 31st July 2014 and he is back to school from 1st August 2014. But since last 2 days his forehead and body (including stomach) is warm and when we check the temperature underarm it is showing 97.8 thru 98.6 f, no fever. He is active taking food and fluids. The question is why his body feeling warm and is there a chance that he again get the viral fever back or do we need to take him to doctor and do any tests? Please suggest....

Brief Answer:
Warmness alone will not be conclusive.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your query.

I shall make an effort to provide you with good professional recommendations specific to your questions.

Body warmth is a combination of many factors for your kid. With the recent medical history denoting ongoing fever with throat infection - chances of lingering infection are high considering the young age.

I see that antibiotic 1 has been given 2 times, and antibiotic 2 for once. My comments on this: This may not be an ideal treatment because, if the infection has not been controlled antibiotic 1 then certain tests need to be done before prescribing antibiotic 2. The reasons include bacterial drug resistance which leads to failure of therapy.

Ibugesic must be a combination of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol,, which would have been prescribed for pain and temperature.

Advent forte - needs to be used only for short duration, you need to check back on the doctor for the number of days needed.

Currently, it seems your kid is doing well without raised temperature although you may seem to feel warmth in the forehead and stomach regions. It is good that diet has come back now.

If viral fever has been diagnosed, you would need to know no antibiotic will curb this entirely and are prescribed to treat secondary bacterial infections that are commonly seen.

I do not think further tests would be needed now, considering the improvement is so visible. Observe for few more days and that should be fine.

Let me know if I have missed out any other concern in your question.

Yet again, I duly appreciate your query to me, I do hope that you have found something useful to help you and I shall be glad to answer any further apprehensions.
