Brief Answer:
Get his blood tested.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Fever with chills and rigors could occur due to malaria or urinary tract infection. In such a case I would insist you to get his blood tested for complete blood count, malaria parasite, and urine for routine microscopy and culture sensitivity. As of now give him paracetamol or acetaminophen to bring down the temperature and for reduction of the headache. Also use tepid sponging.

I would insist you not to ignore it.

Let me know after you get the reports. I will await your response.

Regards

He has exams and can't go to doctor for atleast three days.He is very stubborn and wont listen. He is not resting. His fever with chills i doubt can be from malaria. We stay in very clean environment in the US. his chills are very little and occur only once or twice a day. I have antibiotics so have started it today.

Brief Answer:
If fever does not resolve in a week, take him to a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. As of now you can continue to give paracetamol or acetaminophen to bring down the temperature. If the fever resolves in 7 days from its start, there would be no cause to worry about but if it persists or things worsen, it would be a good idea to visit the doctor and to get tests done.

It might not be a good idea to start antibiotics without a proper diagnosis. In most diagnoses antibiotics would not help. However, if you start them, be sure to complete the course.
