Suggest Treatment For Fever In Children

Question : My daughter has had a fever since Friday, it started at 102.4 and was taken to the dr on Saturday. Her throat was red and she was prescribed an antibiotic amoxicillin, here's whats worrying me. On Saturday she took her first dose, on Sunday she took two doses and today she taken her first dose of the day and will be taking the second dose tonight, here's what's worrying me she still is running a temperature and has a cough and a very stuffy nose, why hasn't the antibiotic started working and how will I know that it is working? What are the first signs that the antibiotic is working. She had a virus 2 weeks ago similar to this, why is she getting suck again in such a short period? Please help!

Hi,

I understand your concerns about fever in your daughter.

Antibiotics should help in 2 days. Your doctor should have prescribed paracetamol along with antibiotics.

Please get paracetamol immediately which will reduce her fever now. Dont wait for antibiotic amoxycillin to start acting. Paracetamol if available over the counter can be given by yourself without prescription.

Paracetamol will help her to reduce temperature, sore throat and stuffed nose.

I understand, but how do I know the fever is going away will it slowly start to decrease on its own without pain relievers?

Yes. Fever will slowly reduce and you will observe the effect with in 3 hours of paracetamol tablets.

You will find the blocked nose to have reduced significantly. Amoxicillin will help in reducing sore throat over a period of one week.

Paracetamol will compliment action of amoxicillin. You will see improvements in her activity and alert levels.
