The most common cause of fever with cold is a viral infection.These viral infection causing upper respiratory tract infection have a propensity to spread to other close contact through droplets inhalation.
As she is a feeding mother,she should take extra precautions.I would recommend her to use a face mask when she is in close contact (while feeding or playing)with the baby.
She can take home treatment like tulsi,ginger tea.Steam inhalation and warm saline gargle will also help.She can take paracetamol for fever and anti allergic like cetrizine, as both these medications are safe for lactating mother.
Keep away other family members also who are suffering from cough and cold.
