default
Posted on Fri, 6 Nov 2015
Question: I developed a fever six days ago and two days later broke out in a rash on mt torso, arms and legs. I also have soreness and pain in muscles and joint. Upper arm muscles hurt massage. Went to dermatologist yesterday who said rash was viral in nature and I would have to wait for it to go away. My regular physician agrees. It just all seems strange to me. Is there anything else to do?

Brief Answer:
viral exanthem

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is called a viral exanthem, exanthem refers to a rash that can occur along with fever or other symptoms.
It can commonly occur with viral infections.

The exanthem resolves along with or a normally days after the viral infection has resolved.

Treatment depends on the symptoms present eg if it is itching, you would use oral antihistamines or topical creams such as mild steroid creams or calamine lotion to help.

If there are no associated symptoms then the main aspect of treatment is to monitor.
