Question: My legs are burning!
I have arthritis and fibromyalgia.
I put on biofreeze and that increased the burning!

Answered by Dr. Dr. Gopal (29 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Could be pressure on the nerves or neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel , Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my opinion the cause of burning in the legs is due to nerve pressure or neuralgia. Biofreeze ( Camphor) will not help at all. I suggest that you get MRI L S Spine and Serum Vit B12 levels.
I recommend pain killers , muscle relaxants and a combination of pre gabalin + methycobalamine . Rest of treatment will depend on your investigation reports.
Thanx for the question. Please feel Free to ask any other question.

I am 75 and have spondylolisthesis, along with arthritis and fibromyalgia.
I do not want surgery and am managing the spondy with needling, salt therapy and not overdoing it. Aqua stretch is a wonderful treatment.
I've never had burning in the legs before. This has gone away and I am resting as much as possible.
As a recovering alcoholic, I am limited in the meds that I am permitted to take.
How can I improve my stamina and functioning?

Brief Answer:
Yes, you can improve your stamina and functioning.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
spondylolisthesis is one one of the conditions leading to
secondary canal stenosis leading to burning in legs.
In my opinion you can improve your stamina and functioning with exercises.
Thanx for the question.

May I ask, what is secondary canal stenosis?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Gopal (53 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Secondary is due to other causes

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Secondary canal stenosis means that the narrowing of the canal is due to deformity, excessive soft tissue or some other cause( Like tumor , infection ,etc) while primary is due to narrowing of bony structure.
I hope that I have made the distinction clear.
Thanks

Thank you!
My MRI has shown for a number of years a benign cyst
which appears to be protecting my spine.
What I'm trying to do is keep my spine as stable possible.

Brief Answer:
I would recommend Spinal Flexion exercises.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Since you are having Spondylolisthesis , I would recommend Spinal Flexion exercises to strengthen your spinal flexor group of muscles. If you feel uncomfortable with these exercises then switch back to spinal extension exercises. Ideally you should do what suits yo best.
As far as the benign cyst is concerned, Leave it as such.
Thanks

Thank you very much Dr Goel!
