Suggest Treatment For Flu, Loss Of Appetite And Weight Loss

Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015
Question: I take Percocet 5 mg bid and Xanax 1mg. tid. I just took a urinalysis and they said my "levels" for these meds were way to high for my dose. I have been sick with the flu for almost 3 weeks now and haven't been eating hardly a thing. I have lost over 10 pounds and I believe my body is in starvation mode. I read this will lower your metabolism. can this be the reason for the high levels? I though drugs were stored in your fat cells and losing weight would hasten their elimination from the body. Please set me straight here.

Brief Answer:
Blood levels can change with weight loss

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
The blood levels in the body depend on the hydration status and your weight as it gets distributed through out the body and the concentration depends on the volume available. Now that you have mentioned that your appetite has gone down significantly and probably there could be some dehydration as well with low appetite and flu infection, this can increase the drug levels in the blood significantly. Also if you have taken any medicine for your flue, even this can interact with your percocet and raise its levels.
One more possibility could be a technical fault with the sampling or the analysis. It would be wise to get the test re-done.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.

thank you doc, but I don't think I am dehydrated as I have been drinking plenty of fluids, albeit mostly iced tea, ( I know this is not as good as water) and my urine is almost clear. I also haven't taken anything except Tylenol for the flu. Been reading up and not eating Will lower your metabolism. I'm trying to push protiens and vitamins, but am still worried because I believe the metabolites from these drugs are stored in the fat cells, so I don't want that either. (Do I ?) What is the best way to raise metabolism without gaining weight besides diet and exercise?

Brief Answer:
Not in our hand

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Certain body processes are not in our hand. The best way would be to drink plenty of water and exercise regularly. Also you may even reduce the dose of the percocet if the pain permits.
Also ask for the review of the results, may be there was some technical flaw.
