Question: I have folliculitis on my face. it started w/one pimple (painful to touch), now I have 3 spots in a row near the crease/laugh line & 1 on the other cheek. yes I tried to pop. bad. I think that's why it spread. im 60 and don't get many pimples these show EVERY hair follicle w/pus or a hard something around each one.you can see them sticking out. I've tried everything for about 1 1/2 wks.these sores are very painful, but hard to not touch.

Brief Answer:
Clindamycin and Benzoyl peroxide will help you greatly.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

The proper and formal medical treatment for pimples and the folliculitis as you speak of it, and the resultant scarring that occurs is in the form of a rather humble and plain looking ointment called benzoyl peroxide. This is really very effective in neutralizing the pimples, regardless of where they are and how many of them are there. The best cream applied in tandem with it is called as clindamycin. This kills the germs that are the root cause of the pimples. Isotretinoin can be used to desquamate (what people call as a peel off) the face and gives very astounding results, though it is not strictly neccessary. Now, I have seen that you have been using quite some creams like Neosporin, Miconazole, Staphacetic and mederma.
Neosporin is more for incised injuries and open wounds. Miconazole is for fungal infections, which you do not have at all. Mederma is for hypertrophied scars, neither of which you suffer from. Thus, these liniments did not really help you at all. You might find that the cosmetics market is plush with anti pimple remedies. These are flashy and quite expensive. The really bad news? Most are hype and do not work. I would kindly request you to try a drug store and ask for "Benzoyl Peroxide" and "Clindamycin" ointment. Please apply these for 2 weeks, both at the same time to the affected areas, after rinsing your face lightly with water. After a reasonable time frame, given that you apply them regularly, you might feel a glow of satisfaction as you apprehend your pimple and blemish free face in your favourite mirror.

Feel free to write back.

Thanks,
