Suggest Treatment For Food Poisoning, Diarrhea, Stomach Cramps, Weakness And Headache

Question: I was on vacation last week and got food poisoning. I went to the country's Urgent Care and received a probiotic, Flagyl, Bentyl and Zofran. I am still not feeling well. The diarrhea isn't as bad but I still have bad stomach cramps, weakness and headache. This morning, I woke up and coughed up some colored phlegm. Should I go back to an Urgent Care (I am back in the States) or the ER? I don't want to overreact but I'm concerned this is turning into something worse

Brief Answer:
Need proper antibiotic addition- visit Urgent care

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank for your query and information.
Noted the history of food poisoning, getting the medications yet not getting the complete relief.
It seems that the list of medications do not contain an antibiotic.
Please add on an antibiotic like cefixime or Ofloxacin and you will be fine; cramps weakness and headache indicate an active infection. you can visit the Urgent care for you and also insist on investigations of blood, urine, stool to get an idea of the condition.
Added activated charcoal tablets, banana and curds help to recover fast. Continue the rest of the medicines as before.

The coughed up colored phlegm:
can be throat infection, this also will be checked by a Doctor and if it is due to infection will be taken care of by the same medicines. If the Doctor feel something else as a reason for this, he shall refer you accordingly.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.

Brief Answer:
Flagyl is not an antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Great! This is the misconception about Flagyl. It is antiprotozoal and fortunately active against small group of bacteria which are anerobic (which grow in absence of oxygen).

It is not an antibiotic.
