Question: I've notices a number of behavioral changes in my husband 68 yr old male. He recently told me it took him 3 1\2 hrs to get home because he was lost. Couldn't find north south, east and west. He's started going to bed at 7:30 or 8 pm. He won't bathe more than once every week to 2weeks.

He had several episodes of "getting lost" over the past 2 - 3 years. He thought it was caused by Lipitor which was, at that time a new medication. He was dizzy, fell couple of times. Got lost in the house. At night especially, ran into wall, couldn't make it from bathroom to bedroom one night. After getting off Lipitor it seemed to clear up. Now the problem is back.

Gradual onset I would say.

He rarely leaves the house, declining to go out to diner or visit relatives.

He delays before answering a simple question, as if trying to think how to answer.

He has stopped usual activity - cooking, mowing yard, any housework. He will pick up "1" item at the store, but will not pick up a list of say 6 items.

He is a heavy beer drinker. 12 or more per day over 35+yrs.

I appreciate your opinion.

Brief Answer:
Needs neurological examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

I have gone through the detailed clinical history provided by you.If it would have been because of Lipitor,it should not have returned back.

He needs to undergo a physical examination by a Neurologist for evaluating higher mental functions. He is probably having Dementia.Long term alcohol intake may be the cause.
He will probably have to undergo a brain MRI.

If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
