Question : Hi, I broke my levy foot (all the bones along the bottom side and then my foot twisted and I fractured above the foot. I went to the emergency and it was in the evening. Unfortunately, my husband told the ortho surgeon not to put a plaster cast on me; that I would not be able to use the crutches due to my arthritis. I am 63 years old. Saw the ortho surgeon at the fracture clin twice (re-enraged) and was told by him in March that my foot was heeled and to keep wearing my winter boots!!!

I went back to him in May, 2015 and brought fresh x-Rays with me. I was very upset that I had still been in considerable pain. He looked at my x-Ray and told me that my foot was not healed!! I confronted him and told him what he had said to me. His answer was - do you really want to keep the walking cast on in this warm weather?? I told him that I would be back to see him if my foot was still bothering me. I have an appt next week as My foot still pains and swells up if I have been walking on itc. Cannot wear shoes that I wore before the 2 fractures!!

I am very upset that I hsve to see the same Doctor and would like your advise as to weather I can tell my family Do for to send me to a different orthopedic surgeon?? Also, do you think that my foot could be re broken and coasted to heal properly?? I really do not want to be stuck with this pain for the rest of my life!! It was a year on XXXXXXX 4 that I fractured my left foot.

Appreciate any insight you could offer.

Sincerely XXXXXXX - email address is. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Change the doctor. Get compensated legally. Take supplements. Get better.

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

1. I feel strongly that you need to visit another orthopedic surgeon, because of the good will and implicit faith that has been lost.
2. I agree with your main complaint - I will put it in my words "prescription before correct diagnosis is grounds for malpractice"
3. If as you say, a fundamental skill of every orthopedician - discerning fractures or not has been put to a disservice in your case.
4. Were I in your place, I might seek legal counsel and compensation for your emotional suffering. It is rather pompous to deny somebody a cast by quoting the weather - this is tantamount to black humor.
5. See an new doctor and I'd please request you to be immutable to further fractures by consuming vitamin D and Calcium supplements so that your foot is assisted in healing faster and better, and such a fracture may never occur again ever in any other bone - particularly the pelvis.
6. I would warn and caution you to be wary of painkillers like oxycodone, norcos and such opiate drugs - they are very addictive. By the way, Heroin is also an opiate.

I empathize a lot with your feelings of being upset.

Do question me further for arguably any possible doubt that you might have.
I am at your service as always, and seek legal counsel - don't worry - the other doctor is insured to the hilt. You need grevience redressal.

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards,
Dr. Neel Kudchadkar
