Hi,

I might be able to clear your confusion. However I need more information about the pain. Can you answer the following questions?

1. Since how long are you having the chest pain?
2. How frequently do you have the pain?
3. Can you describe how the pain feels like - a stabbing pain, burning pain or a dull ache?
4. How long does it last?
5. Have you noticed any factor that induces pain such as running, climbing stairs, exercise, after food, sleep or any thing else?
6. What relieves pain - rest, medications or any thing else?
7. Do you notice any other symptoms besides chest pain such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, breathing difficulty, palpitation and so on?

Awaiting your response...

Brief Answer:
Not specific pain...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

From your description, the pain you have is a very short duration ache lasting for not more than couple of minutes. It seems like a sharp burning pain located the bottom half of breast bone. It some times wakes you up from sleep. Please confirm if the pain wakes up from deep sleep. And you don't seem to have other associated complaints with it.

This type of pain is not typical of a cardiac pain nor does it favor gastritis / GERD pain. It seems non specific. It's good that your resting (baseline) ECG is within limits. However if the pain worsens gradually and starts to last for longer (more than 15 - 30 minutes), I will recommend you to report back to a cardiologist. Further tests such as TMT / stress ECG and echo may be necessary.

At this point of time, the best plan of action is to stay relaxed. Avoid stress and exertions. Avoid smoking and alcohol if any. Avoid spicy food. Eat regularly and avoid skipping food. Plan your sleep in a way to sleep at scheduled intervals atleast for 6-8 hours. Keep your weight in control.
Further as the pain is short lasting one, you don't need to be medicated yet. But as I said earlier if the pain becomes worse or if it starts to affect your life, visit a doctor who can start you on medications and plan aforementioned tests.

Hope it's clear. Let me know if you need clarifications.
