Question : I have a question about my 5 year old childs symptoms. He has been ill for over a month. Hes had a chest xray, 3 sets of blood work, a urine test, a swab and an ECG. He had a fever that would come and go, he would be exhausted after any physical activity, he complained about his groin area, armpits, and behind his knees- doc said his lymph nodes are swollen; he also had rapid heart rate after any physical activity. all of his tests came back pretty normal except his blood work shows higher monocytes (sp) and low lymphocytes (sp) and his urine came back with a little blood and protein. The dr was ready to refer him to a hematologist because he wasnt feeling satisfied with the results with no definite answer. Before he did that however he checked a result of a swab that was also done. The result showed positive for RSV. The dr is certain all of these ailments and the blood work are consistent with my 5 year old having RSV. I would like a resassurance that yes this is normal of RSV - please note that my child did not have a cough until the very week he was swabbed which would be week 4 of being ill already and had already done the 2 sets of labs by then that show these high number of monocytes. IS this normal of RSV to have no cough for 3 weeks but to feel flu-like and then get a cough and also to have all of the lab work show what it did as well as the urine to come back with protein and blood.
