Question: How much will this cost me?
My problem is that I have bleeding from above my nose. It used to be infrequent, as when I vomited, but now it is frequent ( 3 [;is days per week. Most often in the am when I first wake up and move in the bed. Sometimes anytime.. It is also a lot more blood clot the last two days and material that just pushes through in clumps. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to get it to stop, yesterday it was the longest...40 minutes. Today it took about 20 minutes. I have trouble with bleeding gums. I don't have any blood in my urine or stool.

Brief Answer:
Stop aspirin...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

1. The cost of your treatment can be decided depending upon the problem you have inside the nose.

2. As per the history you have given, you seem to be taking aspirin which could be the chief culprit of your problems. Unless you stop the aspirin or switch over to some safer medicine you will never get better.

3. My humble suggestion to you is to consult an apt doctor for a thorough evaluation of the nose followed by nasal endoscopy.

4. Finally, when there is a nasal bleed, please put your head down, pinch the soft part of your nose and breathe through the mouth till it stops. You can also apply cold packs over the nose. Avoid swallowing of the blood.

Hope this answers your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX

I have been doing the wrong thing at the time of the bleeding.

How far down do I put my head...just a tilt to my chest or something else?
Do I pinch the outside of the both sides of the nostril, or inside?

I am feeling weak and my mind is a bit confused for two days.

Thank you,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Look towards the floor and pinch the soft part of the nose...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

I sincerely apologize for the delay in answering your query.

In the sitting position, gently lower your head looking towards the floor and pinch both sides of the soft part of the nose, thus blocking the nose and breathing through the mouth. With this maneuver the bleeding will definitely stop.

Lifting the head up may cause aspiration of the blood into the lungs or you may end up in swallowing large amounts of blood, followed by vomiting.

Do not worry! Once the bleeding episodes are reduced you will feel better. If possible, consult your doctor for the change in medicine and examination of the nose.

Finally, eat fresh fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water. You will definitely feel better.

Wish you good luck and good health.
