Suggest Treatment For Frictional Dermatitis With Fungal Infection On Scrotum

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I've got this irritation and experiencing mild sores on my scrotum couple of days ago, and I discovered my testicles has dry flaky skin and there are a few white spots on certain areas. At first I thought it could probably due to the constant exercising where I sweat a lot during group fitness exercise classes and also recently I took up training for indoor cycling, which I think might be the factors contributing to the abrasion of the skin. Then I start to feel a stinging sensation when I soaped my genital areas during bathing. After checking it twice - it seems like the itch and soreness got worse. I checked my balls again to see dark flaky patches on my testicles and some white spots. I went to see a GP & was prescribed SOOV antiseptic cream, but each time i apply, I felt the sting of the cream, which I am not sure I should stop. May I know what symptoms does this lead into? I have not had any sexual contact since 6 weeks, so it couldn't be an STD. This is the first time I have experienced this problem, could it be a fungal infection or some sort? Should I be alarmed, please advise on this. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Oral and local steroids and antifungals,

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for posting on HCM.
I appreciate your concern regarding the skin condition and i will make sure your problem is solved in a rightful way.
From your description, history and photographs its pretty much clear you have got frictional dermatitis with super added fungal infection. Groin area has very sensitive skin and also the excessive moisture and sweat coupled with excessive friction can cause this type of skin condition.
There is nothing to worry as its very simple to treat.
First of all omit using SOOV ointment as it will further aggravate your condition.
Secondly, change from your routine underwear to loose boxers.
As, for the treatment i generally recommend use of oral antifungal drugs like fluconazole/ itraconazole for few weeks coupled with very low dose prednisolone.
Additionally i would suggest local application of hydrocortisone, fusidic acid and sertaconazole creams twice a day for few weeks and use of antifungal dusting powder( sertaconazole) before going for exercise.
Use ketoconazole soap for rinsing those areas.
Take antihistaminics as required to relieve itching and irritation.
Maintain proper hygiene.
I am sure if this regimen rightly followed will take care of your problem.
I would insist you to share the status of your condition after 15 days of the treatment as advised.
Let me know if you require any more assistance from my side or alternately you can close the query and drop your valuable review and rating.
Thanking you

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I think you may not get those medications without proper prescription. It would be best to approach a dermatologist and let him know about the treatment regimen i advised you and request for a suitable prescription.
