Suggest Treatment For Fungal Infection In A Diabetic

Question: I am 70 years of age and am on Metformin 500 mg half a 500mg. tablet twice a day. I have noticed that if I eat anything with cane suger or a bit more than usual carbohydrate it is not tolerated well by my body as I have a fungal infection and also vaginal lice which react during the night. I am about to have a blood test by my GP early October. Should I mention these things to my GP before my blood test or after the blood test results come back?

Thanks for your question.

I can understand your concern.

You should mention those facts to your GP.
It requires local examination and evaluation.

Usually in case of diabetes there is a risk of development infections (including fungal) due to uncontrolled blood sugar levels.
As you have mentioned your symptoms gets aggravated after eating high carbohydrates, it will be better to avoid high calorie intake and follow diabetic diet strictly.

You should under go blood sugar testing Fasting & Postprandial and HbA1c.
Also following test are important in evaluation of long term diabetes also considering your age-
- Complete Blood count.
- Renal Function Test.
- Liver Function Test.
- Urine examination.
- Urine Albumin creatinine ratio.
- Lipid Profile.
- ultraTSH.
- Vitamin B12 & D.
- ECG & 2DEcho.

- You should also maintain good local hygiene.
- Avoid sharing of bed, clothing, towel with others.
- Wash your clothing and towel in warm water and dry it in sunlight.
- You should sun dry or dry clean your bed if not washable.

There are different type of preparations available for fungal infection and lice infestation you should discuss it with your GP.
