Question: I have recently been diagnosed with gastritis in the ER. Today while I was cleaning, my chest started hurting and i felt short of breath, so I checked my HR with a handheld ekg. It said tachycardia and ST depression. My husband is an ER nurse and he says that it is caused by gastritis. I have had 2 chest xrays, lab work, an echo and 24 hr holter which were all normal. Could this be caused by gastritis?

Brief Answer:
Probably cardiac cause, I suggest you go to the emergency room.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Chest pain can be related to many medical conditions.
Gastritis is one of the common causes of chest pain.

But, based on your EKG I don't think that your symptom is caused by gastritis.
I think that the symptom can be related to cardiac problems.
This can be suspected by such ST depression in EKG.
ST depression is related to cardiac ischemia. Ischemia can damage your heart muscle, reducing the ability to pump the blood.

An exercise stress test may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis. So, I would suggest you go to the emergency room without any delay for further evaluation and proper treatment accordingly.

Hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you need further clarification.
