Question : I have been diagnosed with Genital Herpes. It has been 6 months since contracting it. At the same time as I first realized something was wrong, along with the feeling like needles in my skin all over my trunk and legs, I had very stiff muscles in the area of the upper foot (metatarsal area). It has not gone away since. Is this a normal side effect of Herpes, or a separate issue? I have had tight muscles for all of my memory, but it seems to be worse now, particularly my feet. I also have Psoriasis also, which may have some effect? My

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

For recurrent HSV (Herpes simplex virus) episodes, valacyclovir for 3 to 5 days is usually advised. If more than 10 recurrent episodes are reported annually then suppressive therapy daily is advised.

The muscle stiffness is neither related to herpes nor a usual side effect of valacyclovir. Vitamin B complex including B1,6 and 12 along with muscle relaxant like tizanidine or cyclobenzapirine can be advised to manage these accompanying symptoms of stiffness and needle like sensations/ paresthesia.

Wishing you best of health
