Question: Doctor thought I had gout and prescribed indomethacin for the pain. Did not help the gout at all but stopped the pain in the bursa in my left shoulder giving much relief until I finished the bills. Pain and restricted movement came right back. What, if anything, does this tell us?

Brief Answer:
You may be having impingement syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have read your question and I understood that your shoulder pain was relieved for some time after Indomethacin, but it returned once you stop taking this .It means that there is not only inflammation of the shoulder bursa but there is impingement of cuff as well. Your shoulder movement are also getting restricted due to impingement.
To better understand your illness I want to know little detail.
1. Are you having Diabetes?
2. Since when this shoulder is bothering you?
3. Have you done any investigation like MRI for shoulder?
Please send me answer of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You need a MRI of the shoulder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think you are having either a impingement syndrome or a frozen shoulder. To confirm the diagnosis you will need a shoulder MRI.
If your pain is very severe, and MRI shows impingement you will need arthroscopic decompression of the shoulder. It will provide you immediate pain relief. Latter on, you can do physiotherapy.
Tablet Amytrptalin is also helpful in such pain. I would not recommend any steroids injection as it may damage your rotator cuff muscles.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
Thanks
